Who can claim Schiphol compensation for a missed flight?
Schiphol compensation applies to passengers who meet the following criteria:
Your flight departed from Schiphol between April 23rd and August 11th 2022
You arrived at the terminal at the time specified by your airlines, well before the planned departure of your flight (3-4 hours)
You missed your flight because of the long security lines at Schiphol
By missing your flight, you have incurred costs that are not reimbursed by another party (such as the airline)
What does Schiphol reimburse?
Schiphol promises to cover all costs that you have incurred due to missing your flight. This includes:
Costs of alternative flight ticket
Costs of alternative transportation (if you have, in the end, chosen to travel not with a plane but with, for example, a car or train)
Costs of transportation to and from the airport (taxis, trains) and also costs for again travelling to the airport for an alternative flight
Accommodation costs (e.g. if you had to stay a night in a hotel while waiting for another flight)
Costs of activities that you have missed because of your missed flight (for example, if you had to skip a prepaid tour at your holiday destination)
What about compensation for delayed or cancelled Schiphol flights?
Delayed and cancelled flights are generally not issues handled by Schiphol. Most of the time, delays and cancellations are the airline’s fault.
In general, you can claim compensation if:
Your flight was delayed by at least 3 hours.
Your flight was cancelled less than 14 days prior to the planned departure date.
