Passenger demands six million dollars compensation
Thursday, January 31, 2013
New York – An obese passenger was unable to fly to the US last year as airlines could not accommodate her on any seat. Neither KLM, Lufthansa nor Delta Airlines were able to find a suitable seat causing the lady to leave the aircraft. The husband is now demanding compensation following the passing of his wife.
Vilma Soltesz and her husband travelled to their holiday home in Hungary in September 2012. Having booked two seats for herself and one for her husband on a Delta flight, the couple arrived safely in Budapest. Two weeks into the holiday, however, Mrs Soltesz fell ill and planned an early return to the States in order to seek medical help.
When leaving Budapest on a KLM flight, the couple was requested to leave the aircraft after the crew had failed to accommodate Mrs Soltesz who was wheelchair bound. Attempts to board a Delta flight from Prague failed as crew members told Mrs. Soltesz and her husband they did not have the capacity to transport her onto the aircraft. A third attempt to board a Lufthansa flight later that month failed similarly.
Mrs Soltesz passed away on October 24, 2012, in her holiday home in Hungary after being unable to board a flight back home to the US. Her husband Jonas Soltesz is now filing for compensation and has demanded six million dollars.
