Is Booking.com purposely misleading customers?

Monday, April 28, 2014

Booking.com, the most powerful hotel-booking site in Europe, has received a warning from the Code of Advertising Practice Committeee. It seems that potential customers are being massively deceived by the message that there is “only one more room available” as it is often not the case. Customers are put under pressure and are more inclined to book immediately

The Committee believes that terms such as "we have only one more room left” are misleading. Booking.com does not indicate that this offer only applies to their own website, while there still may be rooms available on other websites. The verdict was as follows: "The term ' we ' makes insufficiently clear, whether or not the scarcity refers to the Booking.com website alone"

It is not yet clear whether Booking.com will take any actions against the accusations.
