Troubled carrier Malaysia Airlines is putting in place a drastic restructuring plan which will include complete rebranding. These measures are in response to years of losses and a decline of consumer confidence following the 2014 tragedies of MH370 and MH17. Costs for the overhaul are estimated at approximately £1.1 billion.

Some of the planned reforms include: The layoff of approximately 6000 staff members, downsizing on flight routes and the introduction of new senior management. Part of this team forms the new CEO Christoph Mueller, who is known for turning around and revamping troubled airlines. According to Mueller the company will be more like a "start-up". "It's not a continuation of the old company in a new disguise, everything is new," said Mueller. Concrete plans and details are to be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
