Airlines are rejecting compensation claims
Thursday, July 6, 2017

A recent investigation by consumer group Which? has found that carriers are deceiving passengers out of millions of pounds in compensation.

Although every passenger is entitled to a maximum of £526 in case their flight is delayed or cancelled, excluding flights affected by ‘extraordinary circumstances’ , some airlines are withholding the EU 261/2004 compensation. The worst four antagonists are: Ryanair, British Airways, Norwegian Air and Thomson Airways.

The study has shown that these carriers have a tendency to reject claims without providing objective evidence that the passengers are in fact not entitled to compensation. Furthermore, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has for example advised Norwegian Air that 83% of their initial declines were incorrect. It is only when arbitrary action was taken that some companies agreed to pay the passengers out. Nonetheless, there are still some airlines like Emirates that are extremely unwilling to cooperate. Alex Neill of Which? states:

“Some airlines seem to be making it as difficult as possible for passenger to receive the money they are rightly entitled to for flight delays”
