Airlines cancel all flights to Wuhan and some services to other destinations in China
Monday, January 27, 2020
Major airlines are being required to cancel their flights to China as their government has placed Wuhan’s airport on lockdown. The interruption to the scheduled services is expected to last at least a week.
KLM, Air France, Delta, among others, have all begun letting their passengers cancel flights to the Country free of charge. Airlines that operate flights to Wuhan have announced that they will not operate any services to the city until the 2nd of February. It is expected that the lockdown will last longer, however.
The abovementioned companies join regional giants, like China Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Scoot, AisAsia, Thai Airways, and Cathay Pacific, in temporarily stopping 100% of their flights to the city. In Wuhan, urban transportation networks are down and some countries are already designing plans for retrieving their citizens if necessary.
Is my flight affected by the measures taken against the spreading of the coronavirus?
Whilst security measures, like quarantine and inspections, are being set up in airports all around the world, you can use our guide on how to verify the status of your flight. In the meantime, the Government has advised all UK citizens to be very precautious if travelling to China as it has raised the threat level of the virus from “very low” to “low”. In the words of the Foreign Office, “all but essential travels” to the area are to be avoided.
If you wish to cancel your flight to China due to the recent developments, we strongly recommend that you contact your airline as soon as possible and inquire about the possibility of receiving a refund without charge.
