Your rights in the event of a delayed or cancelled Volotea flight
Wherever you are flying with Volotea, your air passenger rights are protected under the EU regulation 261/2006, often referred to as the EU261 or the Flight Compensation Regulation. This law guarantees that if your flight is significantly delayed or cancelled and the airline is at fault for the disruption, you can claim compensation and — in the case of cancellations — a flight refund as well.
Was your Volotea flight delayed? If your Volotea flight was delayed by at least 3 hours and the delay was the airline’s fault, you can likely claim up to €600 in Volotea flight compensation.
Was your Volotea flight cancelled? If you did not take an alternative flight offered by the airline, you can claim a full monetary refund — don’t accept vouchers! If Volotea announced the cancellation of your flight fewer than 14 days prior to the original departure date, you might be also entitled to flight compensation of up to €600.
Regardless of the cause of the delay, airlines have to provide special assistance, or the "right to care," to passengers. Vouchers can be redeemed in restaurants, hotels and companies that provide transportation. You can pick up the vouchers at the airline service counter at the airport. If the service desk staff won't give you the vouchers, buy what you need nonetheless because the airline is required by law to reimburse your charges (as long as they are within reason).
If your flight was cancelled or delayed due to an "extraordinary circumstance," you are not capable of receiving flight compensation. Customers are only eligible for compensation if the airline is the only party at fault for the delay or cancellation of the flight.

Volotea missed connection flight due to delay or cancellation
If you booked both flights under the same reservation and the delay or cancellation fits the requirements, you may be eligible for compensation and/or a ticket refund.
Should I accept a travel voucher from Volotea instead of a refund?
We do not recommend it — and there are two reasons for that.
If you accept a travel voucher, your money is frozen. You have to fly again with the same airline and the voucher expiry date is usually quite short.
A voucher does not protect your money in the event of the airline’s bankruptcy — you simply lose your money.

Extraordinary circumstances — can Volotea deny me compensation?
The so-called extraordinary circumstances are situations in which the flight gets cancelled or delayed not because of the airline but because of a third party or force majeure. The most common extraordinary circumstances are:
Bad weather, for example thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.
A strike, most often specifically within the aviation industry.
HOWEVER! A strike of a specific airline/its crew is not considered an extraordinary circumstance!
Political circumstances, such as a terrorist attack or general security risk due to political unrest.
Natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.
A collision between the aircraft and birds or other foreign objects.
An ill or unruly passenger.
Flight delays caused by the airport staff, such as extraordinarily long queues to security checks.
